KARIBU KILIMANJARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Kilimanjaro International Airport, covering close to 110sq.km was officially inaugurated in December 1971 and was designed "The Gateway of Africa's Wildlife Heritage" 
The airport become the first international airport to be privatized in Africa in 1998 and is now operated by Kilimanjaro Airport Development Company (KADCO), a consortium comprised of UK base management, engineering and development company Mott Mc Donald International, A South African Infrastructure Fund, The Government of Tanzania and Inter Consult Ltd, A Tanzanian engineering firm. 
The airport is strategically situated between two regions of Kilimanjaro and Arusha in Northern Tanzania. Arusha and Kilimanjaro are ideals regions for tourism, investment opportunities and business activities due to their economic potentialities and unique tourist attractions.
The regions are popularly known as East Africa's best tourist destinations or commonly known as the northern tourism circuit with a combined population of over three million people.
Another local specialty in the region is the precious gemstone Tanzanite, found only in Mererani hills, near the airport which is very much in demand because of its multi colored appearance. Tanzanite export revenues could be boasted significantly by the development of more local processing facilities. Most Tanzanite currently undergoes value adding cutting processes abroad.
The Arusha-Moshi area is a production center for creating demand for cargo flight to Europe, Middle East, Far East. climatic conditions of the region is tropical and the land is very fertile which favors high value crop, cultivation and animal husbandry. Coffee, banana, maize, beans, vegetables are also widely grown in the region.
